Yeah, the BBQ Junkie has been a bit of a hermit lately. The good thing is that my love of BBQ is remains alive, it’s just my love of writing is what’s giving me problems (actually it’s just finding time to write). I was just looking at my blog and noticed that my last post was during Thanksgiving. Wow, that’s sad. I didn’t even write about the smoked pork but tamales that I made for Xmas… or any other barbecue related items.
Four Q BBQ team will be competing this weekend in an unofficial backyard event that I am not able to attend. But, come April we will be having our first event in the O.C. (more details to follow). For now hang loose and I will have my first restaurant review of the year coming up next week. Thanks for continuing to visit.

I would quickly like to congratulate Brian over at lemonchicken on the resurection of his Los Angeles food blog, food.lemonchicken.com. Even though he doesn’t discuss too much BBQ, his old school blog served as in inspiration for this blog back in the day… now if I could just get him to start using WordPress. Welcome back Brian.

Most of you might be wondering about the lack of posts on this website… yeah me too. I took a little time off from work and blogging to dedicate that time towards getting to know my new baby girl. Yeah, the BBQ Junkie has multiplied. But it is all good. My posts will continue to be a little scarce, but will increase in frequency as I get the hang of this daddyhood thing.
Wanted to throw out a quick little update on our BBQ Team Four-Q. We managed to pull together a third place trophie at the Beach Front BBQ Competition back in november… sadly, I didn’t participate on that occasion
There are great photos at the other team member sites:
Soul Fusion Kitchen
Professor Salt
The Survival Gourmet
Look for all of Four-Q to compete in the spring at Autry.
Peace out for now.

Ok, I’ve really done it this time. I’ve created a MySpace profile for BBQ Junkie just to see if there any BBQ Enthusiasts in MySpace land. It turns out that there are plenty. I also find that Q’rs are using that website to create homepages for themselves and their BBQ teams.
For those who aren’t familiar with MySpace, I know there is about a dozen of you out there, it is an online community that lets you create a profile and add pictures. MySpace is all about comments, if you don’t have too much time for making them you might not get the full experience. It’s not a traditional webpage where you have total control, but there is some creative freedom.
If you want to create a webpage for yourself where you might not need the community aspect, Google Pages is a great alternative with a googlerific web interface. If you have a BBQ team that does catering and need a webpage for your menu and photos, this could be a good solution for you. It’s easy and quick. There are plenty of websites out there that can get you on the web in no time at all.
If you need a quick webpage for your BBQ services check out this link:

If you want to add me as a MySpace friend or check out my profile here you go:

I decided that it was time to dismantle the BBQ Junkie Forum (not the blog, just the forum) for a few reasons. The only reason that I had put it up was because I could. Not a very good reason. Secondly I (or anyone else) would rarely visit the forum. What’s the fun in that? It was also getting spammed so bad I couldn’t keep up with it and I needed to focus my attention on the BBQ Junkie blog. The forum needed moderation and I didn’t have the time to do it. Who knows, in the future it may be reincarnated but in the meantime if you are looking for a few good BBQ forums check these out:

Took a little time off from blogging… work was getting the best of me. Now, I figure it’s time to update the site and create some posts. I started by updating my WordPress software and now my BBQ Junkie header has vanished. It looks like I’m going to have to go in and edit some code. Oh well, look forward to some upcoming content.

For a good portion of today this website’s hosting company was experiencing server issues. This temporarily led to the inability of the world to access the BBQ Junkie blog.
Sorry for the inconvenience
Everything seems to be working now and the world can now continue celebrating the art of BBQ by reading the pages of this blog. Enjoy.

Today marks the official one-year birthday of BBQ Junkie. I am not sure what the dog-year equivalent is to blog-years, but it should definitely be more than a one-to-one ratio. I suppose it is a good time to reflect on the past year and possibly list some accomplishments and list some goals for the upcoming year.
In the accomplishment department, I became an official Kansas City Barbecue Society member and BBQ judge. I also joined the California BBQ Association and have judged a couple of their events. I have joined together with a couple of other bloggers to form the first ever all-blogging BBQ team. We will compete officially at the Autry BBQ competition in April. I have met many great people that share in my barbecue, blog and food addictions and you all have made this past year a most memorable one.
As far as goals are concerned I am looking forward to redesigning this site this year. I am keeping true to my New Year resolutions… except for the one dealing with posting more frequently and the one dealing with losing the holiday weight. I will get to those soon. February was a busy month for me and it seems that if I BBQ more often I don’t have as much time to post on this blog. This is a dilemma that will continue plague me in the upcoming year.
Thank you all for a wonderful year.
BBQ Junkie-out.

I have nothing but silliness here that isn’t really BBQ related. Last week The Survival Gourmet tagged me to answer a few questions, after someone had tagged him. It is the bloggers version of a chain letter. I hope this madness ends soon, in the meantime read on.

I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but after months of being without a functional kitchen our remodel is coming to a close. Our range, range hood and dishwasher are finally reconnected, as are most of our electrical outlets. What’s next?… a few cabinet pulls, some paint and a few other finishing touches. I have my first pot of red beans, in many months, on right now. Next weekend I will be doing lots of barbecuing!
