May is National BBQ month

Last year I kicked off national BBQ month with the 7in7 , seven restaurant reviews in seven days. Unfortunately I will not be starting in the first week of May, but will try to get things going on the second week. The restaurants that I choose will come from my handy BBQ restaurant list. This will be a little more difficult this year because I will attempt not to repeat any restaurants previously reviewed and will have to do much more driving. I have a feeling that this will be a good year for the 7in7… how can you go wrong with visiting 7 BBQ restaurants? A couple of restaurants that you can count on me visiting this year will be Phillips and Zekes. If you have any other recommendations, let me know.

Good luck on the quest. If I had to find 7 new barbecue restaurants in 7 days I’d have to cross 7 states! You be lucky in California.

I am also down for a BBQ-Trek, count me in and I’ll help with the pics/reviews!

How about Pecos Bill’s on Victory, a few blocks north of Griffith Park? Great ribs on the weekends and Oakie Pork and Oakie Beef sandwiches during the week.

Just happened upon the site bored at work. To add to your list of Woodland Hills BBQ, try Rosie’s on Ventura and Winnetka. It’s a newer location, but they’ve been in the valley for awhile. Good selection and you can’t go wrong with wood-burning bbq.

I’ve tried a number of places in the LA area and I think Woody’s is the best. I ordered the combo (pork ribs, brisket and mild beef sausage) and it was better than Phillips, Lucille’s, Robin’s in Pasadena and Barn Burner. The ribs had a good smoke ring, noticeable smoke flavor, and were cooked well. The brisket was unevenly cut, but good - good smoke ring, tender and not dry. Just be aware - the location isn’t great.
