BBQ + Blogging = Crazy Delicious
Well it’s been a while since I have posted… and it’s not that I have forgotten about my blog, but I have been feverishly barbecueing to prepare for my first official BBQ contest. The Survival Gourmet has invited me to join him in the BBQ competition at the Autry on April 8th and I have accepted. I have just gotten word that Professor Salt and Sylvie from Soul Fusion Kitchen will be joining the team as well. This is going to be an all-blogging BBQ team. This will make for an amazing BBQ event as well as a great blogging event. I will keep you posted on all the details and let you know what our team name is going to be… when we decide on one.

BBQ chicken thighs

I made some BBQ chicken thighs this weekend… they came out pretty good. Not quite as good as some of the competition chicken that I have had, but a respectable effort none the less. I am working on refining my timing for every meat that is entered in BBQ competitiion. I will put the recipe up here in a bit, just have to decypher my notes.
Feb 22, 06. The post continued…
I was happy with how good the chicken came out. It wasn’t the best chicken that I had tasted, but it was damn good. Chicken thighs are what most BBQ teams use for that category, they have more fat and cook relatively quick so I picked up a pack of Zacky Farms thighs from Costco. I know this is pretty average chicken, but I wanted to see how the different sizes of thighs cooked up with regards to seasoning and time on the grill. Next time I will avoid the pre-packaged thighs and ask the butcher to give them to me all the same size, it just looks better when it’s plated. It also evens out the cooking time somewhat.

Santa Maria BBQ Bureaucracy
The Santa Maria Times tells a story of how the city is trying to regulate barbecue, but by doing so it is destroying years of tradition. For those of you unfamiliar with Santa Maria, it is the epicenter for barbecued tri-tip.
BBQ School of Pitmasters
The Kansas City BARON of BARBEQUE, Chef Paul Kirk, will be teaching a BBQ class in Northern California on March 4th, 2006. From what I hear this class is amazing and a must-do for anyone seriously thinking about competition BBQ. The class costs $225 for members of the CBBQA and $275 for non-members.
Asado Argentina
I found the great little BBQ blog thats located down in Agentina. Reading it and looking at the photos will leave your mouth watering. It’s always good seeing how people around the world BBQ.
