What’s on your Xmas list?

Do you love BBQ, cooking, or Los Angeles? I would love to hear what you’d like for Xmas, Hanukah or Kwanza this year. During the holidays it seems as though everyone is cooking up something special. Many gifts that are exchanged are focused around cooking, whether it is BBQ or not. If you are looking for or want a gift that is related to BBQ, food or Los Angeles just write it down as a comment to this post.
Plans for a large steel smoker

Here is a website, compuvices.com, that has pretty extensive plans on building a rather large BBQ pit and trailer from a couple of old propane tanks. And, did I mention that the plans are free? There are plenty of photos that show this BBQ pit at the different stages of completion. Enjoy.

BBQ Matches

Are you looking for a unique gift for that barbeque enthusiast in your life…a gift that doesn’t involve you covering yourself in BBQ sauce? There is a website, BBQ Matches.com, where you can buy a set of matchbooks from famous BBQ joints around the country including Arthur Bryant’s in Kansas City, Stubbs Bar-B-Q in Texas and (our very own) The Pig in Los Angeles. Of course you can always go over to The Pig and pick yourself up a book of matches along with a pulled pork sandwich. But, where is the fun in that? Seriously though, this is a very unique gift, in a nice package, for under $10.00… not sure where you will be able to find that anywhere?
It’s In The Sauce

I found a great little BBQ joint in West Hills this a couple of weekends ago thanks to a hot tip from my good friend Mr. B-Stizzle. It’s a pretty small little restaurant with a long name; It’s In The Sauce, Texas Style BBQ Sandwich Shop. There is absolutely no seating in or outside of the restaurant, so be prepared to take your meal with you. But, also prepare yourself for some tasty eats.

Brick BBQ Pit With Wood Storage

I found some plans at the Smoke Ring website for another vintage brick barbecue pit circa 1954. The style is reminiscent barbecue pit that was built on an old I Love Lucy episode. Although not an exact replica, it brings to mind those good old days with Ricky and Lucy. If you do happen to use these plans let me know how it goes.

L.A. Blogs
The Los Angeles Times Calendar section has a great article on L.A. blogs. There are so many blogs out there that cover off on all the aspects of this city. It opened my eyes to some new blogs. Read the article in today’s paper, or go to the website and read it there.
And here are a couple of the L.A. blogs that I read regularly:
Soul Fusion Kitchen
Daily Gluttony
You Gonna Eat That? (actually in the O.C.)
Low End Theory’s L.A. Restaurants
Rob Lowe Can You Go
