You gonna eat that?
Mad props go out to Professor Salt down in the O.C. on the recent redesign of his blog, You Going to Eat That? Along with the graphic redesign he has switched his publishing software from Blogger to WordPress, which is exactly what the BBQ Junkie uses. Aside from a great new look he has a couple of nice posts on BBQ. If you have the time, check out Professor Salt.
Barn Burner Texas Barbeque

My wife and I were out in Pasadena a few weeks ago when we noticed a new addition to the Fair Oaks Avenue landscape. A large bright red barn with the words “Barn Burner Texas Barbeque” sat there in front of us. I was actually trying to get over to Zeke’s in La Cañada but when the wife asked me if I wanted to give it a try, I couldn’t say no.

Plans for a vintage 1985 BBQ grill

In an article dated July/August 1985 Mother Earth News offers plans on how to build an inexpensive BBQ grill with built-in smoking rack. I’m not sure what the 1985 price of $103 for materials would translate to in today’s dollars… probably because I can’t remember paying $103 dollars for anything back then.

BBQ Podcasts

The BBQ Forum has started creating podcasts of interviews with the BBQ elite such as David Klose of Klose BBQ grills, Chris Lilly of All-Star BBQ Showdown and Paul Kirk the Baron of Barbecue. They cover off on other topics as well, but the interviews are where you get the little nuggets of info. You can access these podcast by browsing the Apple iTunes music store under podcast and typing in BBQ in the search field. There is also another BBQ podcasts by BBQ-4-U available through iTunes free of charge.
You don’t need an iPod to subscribe to these podcasts… all that you need is the iTunes player. The iPod is nice if you want to take these podcasts with you… to the gym for instance. When all is said and done you don’t even need to go though iTunes to get these BBQ Forum podcasts, they have them available for you to download through the following link:

My first BBQ judging

I got back last night from judging at the Smokin’ In The Park BBQ Championship. It was my first time judging and I had a blast. It was well worth the 6 hour commute to and from the Viejas Outlets in Alpine. There was great weather, great BBQ and a beer garden… what more could a BBQ judge want? The event was well organized with much props going out to the California BBQ Association for doing it.

Memphis Championship Barbecue

My wife and I were in Las Vegas earlier this month visiting some family. I had to ask the obvious question of “where is the best BBQ in Las Vegas?” My nephew Alex quickly recommended a place called Memphis Championship Barbecue. With four locations around Las Vegas he finds it easy to eat there often and loves their pulled pork. So we asked him to show us the way.

Grill All Night Long
I’ve found the perfect solution for nighttime grilling now that daylight savings time is coming to an end. Check out the Grill Light from Brookstone. It’s small, weatherproof and it puts off a mighty glow.
Burrell’s Bar-B-Que Pit
Mr. BBQ Lover over at the New Diner blog has a review of Burrell’s Bar-B-Que Pit in Santa Ana. He’s got great photos and nothing but good things to say about their mac n’ cheese.
… I’m not sure what happened to his post on Burrells’s, but his blog has other BBQ reviews to read.
