An American Barbecue Pilgrimage
I know, I know… I need to update this site. My apologies, it was a busy week and I have many incomplete posts in the queue that I need to finish. I did some phenomenal pulled pork this weekend and will be posting the recipe soon. In the meantime I offer you an article written for Slate Magazine by David Plotz.
Ribs
If you are going to be BBQ’n up some ribs this Memorial Day weekend, and even if you’re not… This link has all the information that you have ever sought or ever wanted to know after about ribs.
Barbecue Los Angeles

Thanks go out to Mr. BBQ Lover, a fellow BBQ enthusiast. He has suggested many barbecue restaurants to include in the BBQ Junkie reviews. Another shout-out to my other readers who have offered their BBQ recommendations as well. Over the summer, I would like to review as many of these establishments as is possible. So, I am taking recommendations on any additional barbecue restaurants in Los Angeles or anywhere else in Southern California.

JR’s Barbeque

JR’s Barbeque in Culver City
After doing 7 straight BBQ restaurant reviews in 7 days last week (the 7in7) I began to have cravings for guess what? More BBQ. These cravings exponentially increased after seeing Sylvie’s post on her blog, Soul Fusion Kitchen, about JR’s Barbeque. She has great photos and insight into a restaurant that she frequents. Sylvie had recommended that I give them a try. I only have one thing to say to that… thank you Sylvie.

Grill temperature

If you just got a new BBQ grill in honor of National BBQ Month you may be asking yourself “how can I gauge the temperature of my BBQ grill?” One way to do this is with the grill thermometer you got at last year’s end-of-the-season sale at Williams Sonoma that still happens to be in the box. The other way, just in case you can’t find the grill thermometer, is the hand count method. Hold your hand carefully right above the grill and count “One, BBQ Junkie. Two, BBQ Junkie…” and so on. The higher you count before you pull your hand away, the lower the grill temperature.
2 seconds = high grill temperature
3 seconds = medium-high grill temperature
4 seconds = medium grill temperature
5 seconds = medium-low grill temperature
6 seconds = low grill temperature
Jax Bar and Grill

Jax Bar and Grill in Glendale.
Tonight’s 7in7 BBQ restaurant review was close to being a complete disaster. Someone in the BBQ Junkie’s inner circle had highly recommended Jax in Glendale. “Sure, why not?” I thought to myself. Jazz and BBQ would be the perfect way to end the 7in7.

Glencrest Bar-B-Que Restaurant

Glencrest Bar-B-Que Restaurant in Venice
This has by far been the easiest day to do 7in7. I didn’t have any meetings scheduled during my lunch hour and I could see the light at the end of the reviewing tunnel. I had decided that the 6th BBQ restaurant the 7in7 was going to be the Glencrest Bar-B-Que Restaurant on Abbott Kinney Blvd. in Venice. I had visited the restaurant once, long ago, and couldn’t remember whether I had liked it or not. So why not give it a try and throw so photos up on my blog while I’m at it.
